Fresh New Web Site, Same Great Lehigh Community PDF Print E-mail

Hello and welcome to the new web site for the Lehigh Club of Philadelphia!  As time goes on and technology advances we grow more reliant on digital means of communication to plan, network, and stay in touch.  With that in mind we decided to give our web site a refresh so we can better share all of the great things that go on here at Lehigh Philly and offer you more ways that make it even easier to stay connected to Old South Mountain, even if you live here in South Philly.   We're socially networked now too!  Boy, are we catching up with the times :)  You can:

-Link up with us via RSS (really simple syndication - a click and all the front page site news goes right to your RSS reader, all of the news, none of the searching)

-Connect on Facebook (Lehigh Club of Philadelphia page)

-Follow on Twitter (LehighPhilly)

Links to those social networking areas can be found via the icons on the top right of each page on this site.  We also have areas for Events, Photos, Board Member Information, and Meeting Minutes if you're interested in what's in the works.

So while the site is new, the social events, community service events, networking, and great friendships within Lehigh Philly are as exciting and enjoyable as they've always been, and there's a LOT planned for the fall.  So check out the site, plan to attend an upcoming event, and get involved in the Lehigh Community right here in Philadelphia!

Club President's Mid-Year Update 2008 PDF Print E-mail

It's hard to imagine, but Spring is just around the corner and the Lehigh Alumni Club of Philadelphia is busier than ever!

As you all know, we have hosted some wonderful events over the past year, each of which has been well-attended by area alumni, friends and family. Many of the events were either subsidized or sponsored in their entirety with the generous financial support of area alumni and friends.

Heres a look back at where some of the dues have been spent:

  • Each year the Club presents a $500 Book Award to a deserving member of the incoming class for outstanding work in writing an essay about his/her future Lehigh experience.
  • We were able to subsidize almost 50% of the cost of the From Beer to Wine event for young alumni, which contributed to the event selling out.
  • Every January the Board hosts a wine and cheese / Meet and Greet so area alumni who are interested in learning more about the club or about volunteering have the opportunity to speak with Board members.
  • The club purchases hors d'oeuvres for most happy hours and waives suggested event donations for Young Alumni.

Being a dues payer also has special privileges: dues payers get advance notice of events with limited capacity, such as the "From Beer to Wine", the King Tut Exhibit, and more.

If you haven't yet had the opportunity to attend any of our past events, don't worry, there is still so much to look forward to in 2008! The Board and Club volunteers have a busy calendar planned for the rest of the year.

March

  • Patriot League Happy Hour: take advantage of this opportunity to socialize with not only your fellow Lehigh alumni, but also with area alumni from all of the Patriot League schools.

April

  • Lights of Liberty Walking Tour: take a walk through history with this first-of-its-kind ambulatory sound and light show.
  • Special Olympics Swim Meet: one of our annual community service events, and the fifth year in a row that the Lehigh Alumni Club of Philadelphia has supported this worthy cause.

May

  • Patriot League Networking Event: a more formal networking opportunity with peers from the Patriot League.

July

  • Freshman Sendoff: this annual event with the theme A Taste of Philly is always one of our most popular club events.

September

  • Rosenbach Library Tour: the Rosenbach Library was voted one of the top museums and libraries in Philadelphia. With so much history to offer, we hope to organize a guided tour, along with an opportunity to socialize over light refreshments.
  • Lehigh/Lafayette Golf Outing: possible charity golf outing to be co-sponsored with the Lafayette Alumni Club.

October

  • Hayride and Pumpkin Picking: this will be the fourth year that the club will host this family-favorite event at Linvilla Orchards.

And it's never too late to contribute to our annual dues campaign. If you haven't already, please consider paying your club dues so that we can continue to offset event expenses and plan more wonderful and exciting activities for area alumni.

As always, please feel free to contact me any time if you have any questions about the club or our events.

Best, Melissa Glozman '94
