December 2006 BOD Meeting Minutes

Lehigh Alumni Club of Philadelphia BOD Meeting Minutes December 6, 2006 Location: Melissa's house and via phone

Attendees: Joann Giangiulio, Justin Bayer, Andrew Hartmann, Melissa Glozman, Hillar Puskar, Lee Wolfe, Monica Timar

Absent: Jill Anderson (LUAA)

Summary of recent events:

  • November 11th was the ALS walkathon being done via the University. We had not heard from anybody who attended.

Upcoming events:

  • December 10th - Special Olympics bowling event, Joann is handling. It will be held at the Conchester Bowling Lanes which is in Aston PA (by Media). 8 am until noon, one alum will be attending with his son.
  • Note: the spotlighted charity for 2007 will be the Cancer Society
  • Wednesday January 10th 7pm-9pm Career Networking Reception hosted by Alumni Career Solutions and the LUAA. This event is hosted by Bob Brown, '78 and will be held at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Center City. They are charging for the event this year ($20 alum, $10 student) due to too many no-shows. As of 12/6/06 there were 29 alums and 10 students registered. Hillar will be attending. Web site for the event is: http://www.lehighalumni.com/go/cnr
  • Sunday January 14th wine and cheese event for the BOD and potential new members, it will be at John's house from 2-4 pm. John will handle the food, BOD will handle the wine; John is working on the announcement this week; that announcement will be sent to all alums in the area.
  • The LUAA is asking us to hold a young alumni event in February in conjunction with the young alumni council. Justin offered to arrange this and will work with Martha Reilly. Current thinking is to hold this one in the 'burbs (Conshohoken?).
  • Andrew will look into a possible Arts event which would involve an optional group brunch and a concert at the Kimmel Center. One possible date is Feb 11, the window for this event is mid-February to early March.
  • Lee has been working the details of a trip to the Crayola Factory in Easton. She is trying to coordinate with the Home Club, With a group of > 15 people the price is $8.40; they charge for ages 3+. There is a McDonald's on-site that can be reserved. She will look into the cancellation fee. Tentative date is April 21.
  • April 13-14 is the inauguration of Lehigh's new president and we need to avoid those dates.
  • Hillar is working with his Lafayette contacts to pick a date for the spring golf outing. Current potential dates are May 4 or 18 (Friday ~noon).
  • In conjunction with the LUAA there will be an introductory event for our club/region for Lehigh's new President Alice Gast. The target for that event is late May/early June. Potential location for the event is the Constitution Center.
  • Camden Riversharks baseball game in the late summer; this would be a family event and we'd do this instead of the Phillies game. Need to be mindful of the date for the Freshman Sendoff.
  • September 2007: another young alumni happy hour which would welcome the new graduates to the club and to Philadelphia. Hold this event in Center City.
  • Hillar is planning on a golf event in September or early October which would be a joint event with the Home Club.
  • Joann offered to hold another wine event at Tria next fall.
  • Melissa offered to organize the pumpkin/hayride event for October.

Our next meeting will be via conference call on Wednesday Jan 24th at 7:30 pm. This would hopefully include some new volunteers from the Jan 14th wine and cheese
